Music at St. Stephen's Minimize

…and rejoicing in the Holy Spirit!

From its first days in the 1890s as a group of boys and girls who loved to sing hymns, St. Stephen’s has been a musical congregation. In fact, the name of our parish was inspired by the donor of our first organ.

We take our music seriously. Blessed with many talented parishioners and four superb soloists, and led by creative and gifted directors over the years, our choir is second to none in the area. We are an enthusiastic congregation who loves to celebrate our Lord through song.

•           Choral offerings, favorite hymns and canticles brighten Sunday services.

•           Christmas and Easter Festival Services feature sacred works performed and augmented by soloists and instrumentalists.

•           Our Family Carol Service on Christmas Eve is blessed with capacity attendance. It is an inspirational offering from our parish for the birth of our Lord.

•           The Cherub and Chapel Choirs sing several times a year at our regular worship services and occasionally at coffee hour.

•          St Stephen’s offers its tradition of music to the community through regular concerts. Enhancing life with moments of uninterrupted musical meditations is a practice that concert goers at St. Stephen’s can experience. Throughout the year music can be heard here – our yearly Messiah Concert by the St. Stephen’s choir and soloists, accompanied by chamber orchestra during the Christmas season is a must. We offer a spring concert of a major oratorio work (for example, John Rutter’s Requiem) accompanied by our glorious Peragallo Pipe Organ.

Join the choir as a full-time member or as a participant in our special musical events. Rehearsals are held on Wednesdays at 7:30 PM, September to June, in the St. Cecilia Room.

The Orff Music Program

The St. Stephen’s Orff Music Program involves children from Nursery through 6th Grade. The Orff approach involves singing, playing the instruments in the Orff Instrumentarium, improvising and moving to the music. All children are welcome. No prior musical knowledge is required!
